A Penny Saved is a Money Earned
Posted on Jul 24, 2008 under Business and Economy |When I was in college, independence was a great experience. Being from my parents’ control 5-6 days a week was a little over-whelming but I was able to survive and finished my degree on time. During those days, I learned to practice saving when it comes to my allowance. We didn’t have the extra money so I made sure to spend wisely. If possible, food was the most important necessity to really not worry about spending on as you won’t live without it.
Even if I paid for board and lodging monthly with water and power included in the fee, I made sure I conserve water and energy when some of my roommates used to have the “we pay for it so we don’t care if we’re wasting” type of principle. I had the habit of turning the lights and faucet off when not in use. Now that I am married, I still have the habit of being one. I can’t let a light on when nobody is in the room or when it’s not necessary. I am glad I got use to doing it as it actually helps us save even for only a penny a day. You can imagine, that will be accumulated and a penny is not just a penny after all — it’s money saved.
One other thing that I know saves us money is the telephone. We decided not to hook up a land line at home since our business has it; we would have to pay two telephone bills every month. My husband and I have cell phones and we communicate more often through it. Our business gets the more important calls too so we didn’t need the home phone at all based on our previous experience of having one which we only ended up getting more telemarketers than the calls we really wanted.

Eating out occasionally can help you save money too if your lifestyle seems to be loving trips to restaurants more often than you can actually afford. We dine out once in a while but sometimes I prefer to cook at home when there’s a special occasion to celebrate just for 2-3 people. These are just simple tips on saving money if you want to avoid debt in one way or another. Debt consolidation is what most people do when they need Debt help but that’s definitely not what everyone wants to end up with. That’s why Debt relief comes in handy when you want to work your way out of debt. Consolidate debt before worse comes to worse by checking on your Bills IQ.
