Parents and Soon-to-be Parents: Be Aware of The Value of Cord Blood
Posted on Jul 30, 2008 under Health |During my pregnancy, I didn’t really know what to expect. It was my first time and it meant I would learn new things for the first time as well and that included learning The Value of Cord Blood. When I had my first OB-GYN visit, I discovered that Cord Blood can be collected to bank or donated after the baby is born. As much as I can remember, it was discussed whether we would consider banking the cord blood when our baby will be born. It is known that umbilical cord Treating Diseases with Stem Cells can treat 70 types of diseases like leukemia, anemia, lymphoma, diabetes and cerebral palsy.
I was also amazed by its medical benefit upon learning that there are about 30,000 people in the US alone that are diagnosed with a disease which can be treated with the cord blood stem cells. Cryo-Cell is one of the world’s largest cord blood banks with over 150,000 clients. It’s good to know come 2015, there will be 10,000 cord blood transplants per year all over the world that are using publicly banked cord blood. We should be thankful that this study has been made. It’s a good thing to know that we have something in us that can actually treat certain diseases and that came with us as early as the day we were born which is on our cord blood. So, if you’re a soon-to-be parent or are expecting your newborn, do consider banking the cord blood. It will save lives — your family or your friend may need it.
